That is how director of Foundation “Gratitude“, Elena Misikova, commented on recent statements of the interim President, Mihai Ghimpu, saying that “Russians have to live in Russia, and Moldova should be populated by Romanians“.
“These are inacceptable statements, in my opinion, because if we rephrase them they would sound rather strange as for Moldova, as well as for Moldovans. It would sound like “Moldova for Romanians“, emphasised Misikova, mentioning that such declarations made by the head of state “disorientate the whole society, because its composition is not ordinary one, it is not a monoethnic state, and especially it is not populated by just one ethnicity“. According to Misikova, politicians, who hold such high positions, “have to pay attention to the national feelings of all groups living in Moldova“.
The interim president of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, has declared, on 1st of December, during an event organised by Chişinău authorities on the Unification Day, that according to “Lord’s will“ Moldova should be populated by Romanians. “I revere those who fought for peace, for democracy, for making the Lord’s wish come true so that this land would be populated by Romanians, in Russia – by Russians, France – by French people, Germany – by Germans“, Mihai Ghimpu, the interim president of Moldova, leader of the Liberal party, has declared in his welcoming speech during the event organised by Chişinău authorities on the occasion of Unification Day.
Also on that day, Ghimpu has declared to journalists that he is Romanian and even the top state position held by him now won’t determine him to change his habit in celebrating the National Day of Romania.
