According to Romanian press, the head of the Border Police Inspectorate of Botoşani, Dragoş Holcă, said on Thursday at a meeting with his Moldova counterparts from Stânca that new border checkpoint will be inaugurated on February 15 and its provisional operational program will be between 8.00 and 20.00.
The decision to open urgently the crossing point at Rădăuţi Prut comes after the visit of Romanian President Trăian Băsescu to Chişinău on this 27-28 January this year, when he promised that this checkpoint will be opened "in two weeks”.
Commissioning of the border crossing point Rădauţi Prut - Lipcani was delayed for years because Romanian authorities have not fulfilled the European project for construction of customs infrastructure on their side. Moldova has met all obligations back in 2007, after the European Union granted 11 mln euros to Moldovan and Romanian governments for planning and opening the cross-border checkpoint at Lipcani - Rădăuţi Prut.
